Pickerington Local elects Clay Lopez president, J.E. Postage vice president; adopts 2025 meeting calendar

The Pickerington Local School District Board of Education elected Clay Lopez president and J.E. Postage vice president at its Jan. 13, 2025, organizational meeting.

The action came on a motion to elect both officers together and a roll-call vote. The board then approved a tentative schedule of regular board meetings for 2025 with meetings to begin at 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The board also set the annual records commission meeting for Jan. 27, 2025, at 4:45 p.m., to precede the regular meeting.

The vote to elect officers was taken by roll call. Mr. Henson registered a dissenting vote; other members present voted in favor. Board members said the president and vice president carry additional responsibilities — including involvement in preparing agendas and communicating with fellow trustees — that warrant careful selection.

On the calendar, the board discussed a single conflict for Feb. 10 but agreed there would still be a quorum and left the tentative schedule in place. Board members noted the typical start time for regular meetings is 5 p.m.

On the records commission, trustees discussed process and public-notice requirements for any record-destruction actions. The treasurer described the commission as the body that reviews and approves lists of records proposed for destruction and said the commission typically includes the superintendent, board president and treasurer. The board agreed to convene the records commission 15 minutes before the Jan. 27 meeting to provide the public opportunity to attend.

The board adjourned the organizational meeting and recessed briefly to begin the regular meeting at 5:26 p.m.

Less-critical administrative items and committee housekeeping were addressed later in the meeting.
