The board unanimously approved an update to the district's ESTA policy, a revised Title IX policy, and the purchase of Red Rover attendance and timekeeping software for the business department. The board also accepted monetary donations to special-education programs and to the high school drama club. All motions recorded at the meeting were approved by roll call.
The approvals came during the meeting's action portion after staff presented the proposed policy language and procurement details. Superintendent Hilton and policy staff had previously discussed the items with the district policy committee. Trustees asked no substantive follow-up questions before voting.

What the board discussed but did not adopt
Policy staff presented proposed language to add the Michigan Merit Curriculum diploma and clarify participation in commencement for students who complete state graduation requirements (the Michigan Merit Curriculum), as well as a formal process for accepting homeschool transcripts and awarding credit. The policy drafts also outlined criteria and a formal review team for evaluating homeschool coursework and transcript documentation before awarding district credit.
Trustees also reviewed a proposed early-graduation procedure. The draft allows students who complete graduation requirements before the end of a traditional schedule to graduate once requirements are met but includes procedural safeguards: counselor review, an established academic plan tied to the student’s postsecondary plans, documented outreach to prospective colleges to confirm admission consequences, employer verification for students who intend to enter the workforce, and a recommendation that requests be initiated at least one semester before the proposed graduation date. The policy committee signaled support for permitting graduation once requirements are completed, while cautioning that summer- or online-only accelerated paths will be tightly controlled to prevent inappropriate manipulation of the district’s official enrollment counts.
Superintendent Hilton said the district will return recommended policy language to the board for adoption at a future meeting after committee review and legal/administrative finalization. No formal vote on the commencement, homeschool-credit or early-graduation language was taken on April 28.
