The Pinal County Board of Supervisors on March 5 voted 3-2 to approve a hearing officer’s recommendations that restore an earlier alignment of Val Vista Road and revert regional drainage dedications for the Sunset Canyon planned area development (PAD). The board’s action follows a December 2024 PAD amendment and a subsequent administrative appeal under state law.
The hearing officer’s recommendations remove a previously required north–south, 150-foot-wide parkway (shown in the December 2024 visual plan) that bifurcated the property and restore Val Vista Road to its prior, northern alignment. County staff told the board the change also deletes a drainage dedication that had been added in the December 2024 approval and returns drainage to the 2003 configuration; any drainage dedications required at the later planning stage will be negotiated then.
