Pinal supervisors back local contribution to put State Route 347 improvements on ADOT’s five-year plan

Mayor Nancy Smith of Maricopa urged the supervisors to approve the request, describing SR 347 as a high-traffic, high-risk corridor that serves regional commuters. “347 has 58,000 vehicles traveling that road every single day,” Mayor Smith said. “It is also has two of the most deadliest intersections on that road.”
The board’s approval will add Pinal County to a coalition of local and regional partners—named in the presentation as MAG (Maricopa Association of Governments), Maricopa County, the Gila River Indian Community, ADOT and the city of Maricopa—working to finance widening and safety improvements. Council Member Anna Marie Noor of Maricopa said the improvement is a regional solution that helps travelers from Casa Grande and other communities when I‑10 is congested.
Supervisor Rich Vitiello, who moved the motion, framed the measure as part of a years‑long push involving county and city officials. “This is not just fixing a road, it’s saving lives,” he said before making the motion to approve the support letter.
The motion passed after a second and a voice vote; no roll-call tally was provided in the public minutes.
Ending: The board directed staff to transmit the county’s support to ADOT as requested in the agenda packet; supervisors said they expect the county commitment will strengthen the project’s chance of being scheduled for construction and additional funding.
