Staff presented a plan that divides Opportunity High School's roof into 16 sections with varied repair histories: four sections repaired in February 2005, six last repaired in the early 1990s and six original to the building's mid-1960s construction. The recommendation, as read by a district staff member, called for surface restoration of the four 2005 sections and full replacement of the 12 older sections. "Upon completion, all 16 roof sections will be covered under a comprehensive 20-year warranty," the staff member said.
The board was told McDonald Roofing would provide the labor and materials and that the work would be procured through the Omni cooperative purchasing arrangement with Tremco. The staff member said the project will be fully funded by the state of Michigan 35I infrastructure improvement grant, noting that the district's award for that program was $3,000,000 and designated for the LVN school building project.
Trustee Derek Allen moved approval; Vice President Shauna Gamble seconded the motion. The board voted in favor; the motion passed by voice vote.
