Ravalli County commissioners voted May 6 to approve the sheriff's request to purchase two used 2022 Ram trucks for the county fleet.
The sheriff's office presented the vehicles as locally available used trucks with low mileage (about 12,000 and 17,000 miles) priced at about $34,000 each. Staff said the trucks were obtained at auction and were Canadian-leased vehicles; a presenter described them as "practically brand new" compared with the cost of new trucks and said the purchase would save roughly $20,000 per vehicle compared with new replacements.
Commissioners moved and seconded the purchase and voted to approve the acquisition. Staff discussed fleet condition and the county's practice of using higher-mileage vehicles until they no longer service reliably; the approved purchase was described as part of next fiscal-year vehicle planning.
