District staff said the work is part of a cycle of topping off playground mulch by site, focusing this year on larger playgrounds that require the recommended depths for fall‑height protection. Staff said EWF longevity is about two to three years before the material breaks down and needs replenishment, and that vendors measure fall heights to determine appropriate mulch depth (for example, 9 inches of wood mulch protects falls up to about 7 feet).
Superior Groundcover’s quoted price includes material delivery and installation with no additional fuel or delivery charge. Staff said they will stagger mulch rotations so not every site is resurfaced at once; the board approved the contract by motion (mover Dr. Pomponio; second Ms. Angel) and voice vote. Staff said the work will be done in summer after school is out so playgrounds are fresh for the new school year.
