At the May meeting the Lapeer Community Schools Board of Education approved several instructional materials and facilities contracts.
On motions from the consent and action agenda, the board approved adoption of the K–4 math textbook enVision and the 7–12 English language arts textbook My Perspectives. Both motions carried as presented.
The board also approved a food service management contract awarded to Chartwells for the 2025–26 fiscal year with up to four one-year renewals. The finance committee reported that four vendor bids were received (Chartwells, Winston's Culinary Group, Southwest Food Service Excellence and another bidder) and that Chartwells had received required Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) approvals. The committee recommended that Chartwells be awarded the contract, and the board voted to approve that recommendation.
On facilities work, the finance committee recommended awarding the asbestos abatement contract for Lapeer High School to Nova Environmental, Inc., for an amount not to exceed $114,000 to remove materials including flooring, doors, frames and window units; the board approved the award. The committee also recommended change order number 25, bid pack number 3, for Clark Contracting Services to replace ceiling grid and tile in seven classrooms and a girls' bathroom at Terrell Elementary in an amount not to exceed $32,885.67; the board approved that change order.
The board also approved a resolution designating its representative and alternate for the Lapeer County Intermediate School District (ISD) biannual election, selecting Craig Watson as representative and Tim Lufka as alternate, and approved the ISD 2025–26 general fund operating budget as presented to the board.
Votes on motions were recorded in roll calls during the meeting; multiple trustees voted "aye" for these items and the motions carried as announced by the board president. Specific recorded aye responses during some motions included board members identified in the transcript as Ben Wagner, LaBar, Watson, Miller and Frederick; the meeting minutes will carry the official roll-call record.
