District reports Head Start enrollment, meals and summer plans

A district director presented the board with a May update on Head Start, Early Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) operations, including current enrollment, meal counts and upcoming summer programming.
The update said Early Head Start had 16 enrolled and was full, with seven families on the waiting list; Head Start had 81 enrolled with 15 non-enrolled and 15 vacant slots; GSRP filled 68.5 slots with 11.5 slots not filled. The district reported serving 6,648 meals through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for the reported month.
Administrators noted an average daily attendance rate of 82% in April, ongoing family engagement events (parents vs. staff basketball game, library signups and Earth Day planting), and staffing vacancies: one lead teacher vacancy in GSRP and six CDA teachers' vacancies, with substitute coverage in place.
The director said the district will run a kindergarten boot camp and preschool enrichment program from June 3 through June 27, and that Early Head Start programming will continue through the summer. The district also signaled applications remain open for 2025–26 and that they are processing applicants for the next program year.
Board members asked no follow-up questions and accepted the report. No formal board action followed; the item was informational.
