Board approves $1.075 million to finish sixth‑grade house and Parkview media‑center work; bond program update

The board approved a $1,075,332.45 request to finalize construction of the district’s sixth‑grade house (to be named the Novus Center) and to complete additional scope at Parkview Elementary, district staff said in the meeting.

Ed Donnelly, the district’s construction/program representative, gave an update on remaining work from the 2019 bond program and said the district expects to finish the 2019 projects earlier than originally scheduled. Donnelly reported the high‑school baseball/softball complex and turf fields are in use and that final site work will be complete in June. He said the tennis complex work is under way (demolition and earthwork) and that it is scheduled to be finished in October. Donnelly said the sixth‑grade house administration areas will be ready in early July, with the rest of the facility turned over roughly mid‑August for staff setup before school starts.

Donnelly also told the board the reconciled balance remaining in the 2019 bond funds is about $88,000,000; he said a portion of that balance was originally earmarked for an activity center and the district expects to carry a balance forward for current projects. Board members asked for a detailed financial reconciliation and drawings; staff said those will be provided. A majority of trustees said starting construction activity sooner would help contractors and procurement.

Trustee Michener moved the funding request; Trustee Roney seconded. The motion passed 7–0. Donnelly said the funds come from the bond program contingency and that the change orders and added scope were anticipated when design work occurred later in the project schedule.

The board also heard that additional summer projects include high‑school teacher stations and media‑center furniture installations and that an activity center project (the Novi Wellness Center) is planned to start in September 2025 under the 2025 bond program.
