Meads Mill Middle School staff updated the Northville Public Schools Board of Education on building renovation and an 11,000-square-foot STEAM addition currently under construction in the school’s courtyard area.
Facilities representatives said concrete foundations have been poured for the new STEAM wing and the first block work was expected to begin after suitable weather. The project includes a new covered walkway, upgraded classroom windows and uniformized whiteboard/technology installations. The district is also replacing interior lighting with LED fixtures across the building; that work was reported as already in progress.
Officials outlined the construction phasing and summer schedule. Beginning June 12 — the day after teachers leave — crews will complete work shown on the summer phasing plan (floors, technology, a refresh of band/ orchestra rooms and removal of a large bank of lockers to create collaboration spaces). Facilities staff said vinyl flooring and other finishes will be installed in specified pods and a covered walkway similar to other district schools is planned.
Officials said a temporary kitchen will be built in the current boys’ locker-room area in December; the cafeteria will be shut down and replaced with a combined half-gym/half-cafeteria space through much of spring 2026. The phased plan calls for a new gym and cafeteria to be completed by the end of 2026.
Presenters invited board members to visit construction vantage points including the roof and courtyard and shared photographs of demolition, plumbing excavation and interim murals created by students. They noted temporary walls and precautions in areas exposed to construction.
No formal board action was requested at the meeting; presenters asked the board to note scheduling impacts for fall and spring activities and to expect further updates as the project progresses.
