Clarkston High School media program expands live coverage, student credits and internships

Matt Blow, media production and theater arts teacher at Clarkston High School and Renaissance High School, updated the school board on the districts media program, highlighting student-run live broadcasts, college articulation agreements and summer internship opportunities.
Blow told the board the program has students operating the TriCaster and cameras at live events including varsity football, basketball and soccer games, holiday parades and awards programs. He said the Clarkson High School announcements channel totaled more than 11,000 views between April 2024 and April 2025, and the Clarkson Community Schools YouTube channel recorded more than 25,000 views and nearly 2,500 hours of watch time in the same period.
The program also produces public-service announcements, short films and podcast segments; Blow said students completed roughly 12 PSAs, 14 short films/documentaries and other projects during the year. He described articulation agreements that allow qualified students to earn college credit through Ferris State University and Central Michigan University and said Central has expanded such agreements with other media programs.
Blow described paid summer internship opportunities with Independence Television for current and former students, and noted that the program covers legal topics in class such as First Amendment principles and copyright. Board member Mrs. McGinnis praised the programs expanded format and the community-building role of live events.
