Staff recommends surplus of two former school properties; board to submit resolutions to state for approval

Facilities staff told the board that a facilities-committee recommendation is ready to move two properties to surplus status and that staff will prepare the formal resolutions required for submission to the State Board of Education.

Mr. Press said the properties proposed for surplus are the former Conway Education Center at 1620 Sherwood Drive in Conway and the old Kingston Elementary School at 2694 Highway 905 in Conway. He said a process document and draft resolutions were included in the board packet and that a final version would be prepared for the next regular board meeting "for your review prior to submission to the State Board of Education as required by state law."

Board member James said staff had determined the district has "no future needs for these 2 locations" after extensive review and that the facilities committee supported forwarding the recommendation to the full board for action at a later meeting. No final board vote on the surplus declarations was taken at the work session; staff will return with the formal resolutions and the required state submission.

The presentation noted that staff would be available to answer questions and that the formal resolution packet would document compliance with the state-required surplus process before any disposition or sale.

Because the recommendation requires submission to the State Board of Education under state law, board members asked staff to ensure the draft resolutions include all required steps and to provide the board time to review the final documents before they are filed.
