Anderson 5 honors All‑State and outstanding arts programs at public meeting

Students and directors from Anderson 5 schools were recognized for All‑State selections and outstanding performance awards in music, orchestra, chorus and theater during the board meeting.
The Anderson 5 Board of Trustees honored students and music programs Thursday for statewide arts achievements, presenting outstanding performance awards and recognizing students selected for All‑State ensembles.
Josh Kelly, identified as the arts academy principal, and other district staff introduced the program and described the role of arts education in the district. "Music, visual arts, theater, and dance are not just electives. They are powerful tools for learning, expression, and growth," Kelly said.
The district presented outstanding performance awards to top programs that demonstrated yearlong excellence across judged ensemble performances and individual events. Directors recognized included Stacy Wade (Southwood middle school band), Celeste Griffith (Southwood middle school orchestra), Alan Clark (Southwood high school orchestra) and Wilson Hatcher (Southwood high school chorus); from T. L. Hanna, band directors Andrew Gregory and Colin McKeon were acknowledged.
Individual students were also recognized for All‑State honors. From Southwood, recognized students included Ben Baker (percussion), Patricio Fabiano Rios (cello), Sarah Kate Smith, Alex Zira, Desiree Giacosa (voice), David McDowell (voice), Nolan Rose (voice), Julia Gates (voice), Anne Quinteil Hanna, Maggie Hunsinger (clarinet), and Abby Dobson (French horn). The board invited students and teachers to come forward for photos and to be congratulated.
The superintendent and board chair congratulated the students and staff; the board acknowledged the role of teachers and community support in sustaining arts programs.
