Madison — Mayor Robert H. Conley presented a proclamation on May 13 recognizing John Taylor and volunteers who helped create Madison’s dog park, a project that began in 2013 and was funded in part by a 2019 grant from the Open Space, Recreation and Historic Preservation Trust Fund.
The proclamation recounted the eight-year effort: the Madison Dog Park Committee formed in 2013, identified Memorial Park’s shaded picnic area as a preferred site after evaluating open spaces, sought renewed wetland mapping, returned to council in 2018 with a formal presentation and secured the borough grant approval in 2019. The park opened during the COVID pandemic, which the proclamation said provided residents a safer place to socialize.
John Taylor, who led fundraising and volunteer coordination, accepted the recognition and emphasized the committee’s collaborative work. “I am far from the only person doing this. We had a great group of people in the dog park committee who were instrumental in getting this done,” Taylor said.
The mayor’s proclamation thanked volunteers and noted the project used matching funds raised by Taylor and others along with the borough grant. The council did not take further action at the meeting; the item was a formal recognition of volunteer service and the project’s completion.
No financial appropriation or policy change was made at the meeting; the proclamation acknowledged community volunteers and the prior grant award that enabled the dog park’s establishment.
