New Milford promotes Brian Chevalier to sergeant and swears in officer Carlo de la Rama

The borough’s remarks note Chevalier was hired by the New Milford Police in July 2017 and later assigned to patrol; he joined the detective bureau in February 2023 and serves as one of the department’s evidence and computer systems officers. The council announced Sergeant Chevalier will begin his new rank on March 1.
The council also swore in Officer Carlo de la Rama. According to the clerk’s remarks, de la Rama attended Hudson Catholic High School, New Jersey City University and Rutgers University, earning a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in human resource management. The clerk said de la Rama served as a police officer in Jersey City for two and a half years before joining New Milford and has begun field training.
Both officers recited the standard oath of office while family members and council members were present. No questions, objections or abstentions were recorded in the meeting minutes for the promotional vote; the roll-call votes recorded in the transcript were all affirmative.
The meeting record contains no additional disciplinary, salary, or assignment details beyond the effective date for Chevalier’s sergeant role and de la Rama’s training status.
