Green Team announces Repair Cafe, compost pilot and DPW move to electric blowers; Teeterboro noise complaints campaign urged

Council liaison for the Green Team announced several community sustainability initiatives and a Teeterboro noise reporting push during liaison reports.
Councilwoman Del Reycom said the quarterly Repair Cafe will be held May 17 at the Rutherford Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with last repairs accepted at 3 p.m. Volunteers from the community and the Green Team will attempt repairs of household items on a first‑come basis.
Del Reycom also reported that the Department of Public Works, in coordination with the Green Team and DPW staff member Chris Seidler, has agreed that when gas-powered leaf blowers reach end of life they will be replaced with electric models. The Green Team is also pursuing a community compost bin pilot and the borough will provide a small space for the compost container, she said.
On aircraft noise, Del Reycom said borough resident Jim Linsalata — the borough’s TAC representative (Teeterboro Aircraft Noise Abatement Advisory Committee) — advised that the committee uses breadth of complaints filed online as a barometer of local concern. Linsalata and longtime resident Lois de Tomaso were named as contacts and council members encouraged residents to file separate online complaints to register the breadth of community concern.
