Resident urges stronger enforcement after near-collision on Sycamore Avenue

Jen Siebert, a Tinton Falls resident, told the Borough Council on May 6 that repeated speeding on Sycamore Avenue has become a public-safety hazard and described a near-collision involving a school bus full of children.
"Drivers regularly race down our street with little regard for the safety of residents or other motorists," Siebert said. She said the incident she witnessed that morning was prevented only by the quick reaction of a school bus driver and asked the borough for "consistent enforcement, visible patrols" and more resources for the police department.
The concerns came during the meeting’s public-comment period. Siebert gave her address as 726 Sycamore Avenue and said she offered her driveway as a location for officers to perform radar monitoring.
Council members did not vote on new measures during the meeting. The council president said the traffic-safety unit is "very responsive," and a council member later in the evening thanked Lieutenant Grama and Corporal Duncan of the traffic-safety unit for a rapid response to a May 2 incident, signaling that enforcement activity is ongoing.
Siebert also told the council she had sought greater communication from town departments about community events but had received little response.
The meeting record shows no motion or directive directing staff to expand enforcement or begin a new traffic study; the comment was recorded as public input and the consent agenda and routine business concluded the meeting.
