Hawthorne swears in a permanent police officer; council gives advice and consent

The Borough Council gave advice and consent to the appointment of James Counselor as a permanent police officer effective Dec. 26, 2024. The motion to record the appointment was made by Council Member Bennett and seconded by Council Member Leosso; the council approved the appointment by roll call.
After the formal vote, James Counselor appeared at the microphone and recited the oath of office, including the pledge to support the U.S. Constitution and the constitution of the State of New Jersey and to perform the duties of a police officer of the Borough of Hawthorne. Council members offered congratulations following the oath.
The appointment and oath were conducted on the record; the clerk recorded the advice-and-consent vote and the officer’s swearing-in.
