South Academy Street closure planned for sewer work; engineer reports on multiple town projects

Glassboro officials told the council on Feb. 25 that South Academy Street will be temporarily closed for sewer work and that several residential and commercial projects around town are progressing as weather permits.
Mark (municipal engineer) said South Academy Street — from High Street to Grove Street — will be accessible only to local residents while a developer installs a new sewer line and makes multiple service connections. "That'll approximately be closed for approximately 2 months while water and sewer makes those upgrades and repairs," he said. Councilman Halter also referenced the work in his remarks.
The engineer gave updates on other projects: townhouse work in the Camelot neighborhood is awaiting warmer weather for punch-list items; East High Street Estates has similar seasonal delays; a building on Cave Boulevard has steel up and roofing starting; Desimone Builders (across from Matt Blatt on Main Street) are finishing punch-list items for temporary COs; and reconstruction of Route 47 (referred to as "reconstruction 47") will resume when weather allows. Mark also said Alfred Avenue, a DOT municipal aid project, is being advertised for bids this week and that bids will be collected in March with a report expected at the first April meeting.
He said Jersey Joint at the end of State Street will be completing site improvements as interior work finishes, and that the borough will report on at least four additional projects after final permits are issued and contractors mobilize.
The council approved a facilities-use and street-closure application for the Glassboro Memorial Day Parade scheduled May 26, 2025.
