Committee backs listing of 240 Sanford Street in Glens Falls after college discontinues programming

The Warren County Personnel, Administration & Higher Education Committee on May 1 voted to support SUNY Adirondack’s plan to list for sale a parcel at 240 Sanford Street in the city of Glens Falls.
Committee members said the college received the parcel as a gift and used it historically for academic programming but no longer has academic use for the site and does not expect to in the future. Committee members described maintenance costs and safety concerns from overgrowth as reasons to divest the site.
The county’s representative said the college plans to list the property with a realtor at its appraised value and is not authorized to sell the parcel below that appraised amount without further legal steps. The committee noted the lot is not buildable and contains a pond, and therefore its market value is likely tied to neighbors or nearby residents who might use the land for recreational purposes.
The committee called on the college and realtor to determine market interest; the City of Glens Falls previously discussed acquiring the parcel but did not reach agreement with the college, committee members said. The resolution supporting the sale carried on a voice vote during the meeting.
