Parks staff reported to the Warren County Public Works Committee that spring stocking is underway across county waters and that a small grant from the Lake Champlain Basin Program will support programming at the county farm.
Dean Roan, county parks staff, summarized what the department has stocked so far and said temperatures earlier in the spring delayed some transfers from hatchery spring-fed water to open county waters. Roan said crews have been actively transporting fish this week.
Roan described fish sizes: rainbow and brook trout average about 10–11 inches; some two-year-old trout reach roughly 15.5 inches, and larger rainbows run toward 14 inches. The report noted that colder-than-usual nights set back transfers by roughly a week compared with last year and briefly slowed the stocking schedule.
Roan also reported the county received roughly $1,500 from the Lake Champlain Basin Program to help offset program materials and staff time at the county farm program referenced as Up Beyond the Farm. Committee members did not request a formal resolution to accept that amount and treated the item as a discussion.
Committee members praised the stocking program for serving local anglers and contributing to tourism in county waters. No formal action was taken on either the stocking report or the grant discussion during the meeting.
