MANSFIELD, Texas — Mansfield City Council on Feb. 24 approved multiple parks-related construction contracts and an interlocal agreement with Tarrant County to carry out portions of the Rose Park redevelopment plan.
Matt Young, executive director of community services, presented three separate items: - An interlocal agreement and purchase of materials through a cooperative purchasing agreement with Tarrant County, not to exceed $79,862.95, for construction of a parking lot and site work at 320 Smith Street as part of the Rose Park redevelopment. Tarrant County crews will provide labor and materials for grading and site work; city crews will install irrigation and turf later. - A construction contract with Pro Reno Group (with a $25,000 contingency included in the $127,000 award) to replace weathered custom boards at the Oliver Nature Park Treehouse Overlook. Staff said the project will replace wooden planks with Trex (95% recycled composite) decking and upgrade structural steel support as needed, extending expected material life and reducing maintenance. - A construction contract with Deal Meechum Construction to replace the 31-year-old playground at McLennan Park, expand its footprint, add swings, accessible walkways from the parking lot, and upgrade the pavilion and surrounding irrigation and hardscape.
Council members expressed support for improving older park assets. Each of the three resolutions passed 6–0. Staff said additional nature-trail work is under design and will be presented in a future agenda item.
