Residents tell council Debbie Lane traffic causes speed, noise and safety problems

MANSFIELD, Texas — During public comments at the Feb. 10 City Council meeting, residents described speeding, noise and frequent collisions on Debbie Lane and nearby streets and asked the council for traffic-calming remedies.
Judy Warner, who lives at 2115 Ladera Way, told council her neighborhood backs to Debbie Lane between Matlock Road and U.S. 360 and described three primary concerns: speed, noise and accidents. Warner said the speed limit on Debbie Lane is 45 mph but residents report many drivers exceed that limit; she told council the city recently installed a speed-trailer that will provide counting data and that she has contacted the traffic engineer.
Warner also said she recorded noise levels near her backyard using a decibel app: one reading reached 82 decibels (comparable to a garbage disposal or police siren), and another reached 103 decibels (comparable to standing beside an airplane at takeoff). She said home turnover in her immediate street has increased and that six of 30 homes on Ladera Way were for sale, which she partly attributed to traffic impacts.
Warner and other residents recounted multiple accidents at neighborhood entrances and described damage to community walls and landscaping when drivers lost control. Jerry Sweeney, who spoke earlier, urged the council to consider an ordinance limiting parking near residential driveways to improve sight lines and emergency access.
City staff acknowledged receipt of the complaints and noted the new speed-trailer will collect data; staff told council they would review the trailer results and provide follow-up information to residents.
