The Wimberley City Council on Feb. 20 approved an amendment to the city code governing the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Advisory Committee to permit business owners located inside the city limits to serve on the committee in addition to lodging owners.
Staff presented the ordinance draft amending Chapter 2, Article 2.04.005, subsection b, expanding eligibility to include in-city business owners so the committee can draw from a broader set of tourism-impacted stakeholders. The change was described by staff as intended to provide additional perspective on tourism activities and their effects on local businesses.
A councilmember noted recent turnover of a committee member who had been in the extraterritorial jurisdiction before annexation and said including business owners would add useful diversity of outlook for grant and program decisions funded by HOT. Council voted to approve the ordinance amendment by unanimous voice vote.
The amended language will allow the city to appoint business owners who operate within city limits to the advisory committee; implementation will follow existing appointment and meeting-notice procedures.
