Local coalition invites council to poverty simulation to build awareness

WIMBERLEY, Texas — Betty Giannone, speaking on behalf of the Hays County homeless coalition and Wimberley United Methodist Church, invited Wimberley council members to a poverty simulation scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Hays County Elections Building on Stagecoach Road in San Marcos.
Giannone described the Missouri Community Action Network's poverty simulation as an interactive, four-week (four 15-minute session) exercise that puts participants in the role of low-income family members managing limited budgets. "This poverty simulation demonstrated how much time and energy many families have to give to just survive day to day," she said, and urged council members to pre-register because walk-ins could not be accommodated.
Council did not act on the invitation; staff accepted the information and the event organizers provided a flyer with a QR code for preregistration.
