Council approves summer reconstruction and engineering contracts for local streets

The Colony City Council approved multiple consent-agenda resolutions to reconstruct local streets and hire engineering services for a widening project.

The council authorized a purchase order to F and F Concrete LLC for $707,319.31 to reconstruct 1,027 linear feet on the west end of Keys Drive. Councilmembers and staff said Keys Drive reconstruction is being phased so that school access is preserved; the current phase (the “blue” phase) will be completed while leaving access past the school and the remaining phases would be scheduled in later years.

Council also approved a $848,280.64 contract with CI Pavement for reconstruction of 2,308 linear feet of Arbor Glen Alley (from Blair Oaks Drive to Page Road) and 686 linear feet of Goodman Drive Alley. Staff said the contractor will start on the east end and that the alley work is planned to be finished before school resumes in the fall.

Separately, council approved an engineering-services contract with Quiddity Engineering LLC for $664,568 to prepare construction plans for the Memorial Drive widening project. City staff said the initial design work covered by the contract will allow the project to be bid in May 2026. The broader Memorial Drive plan calls for widening portions of the roadway from four lanes to six lanes using the city-owned center median so the city expects to avoid right-of-way acquisition; Denton County will reimburse half of engineering and construction costs under the county partnership.

All three items were approved as part of the consent agenda. Council moved and seconded each resolution and voted to approve the contracts.
