Council awards contracts for Strathmill and Anderson Drive reconstructions totaling about $760,000

The Colony City Council approved two separate construction purchase orders to repair and reconstruct deteriorated pavement in residential areas.
Council authorized a purchase order to F & F Construction in the amount of $389,493.30 to reconstruct about 812 linear feet of the southbound lane of Strathmill Drive, a two‑lane roadway with a large median that has long cracks, separation and ponding. City staff described the section as deteriorated to the point that patching would not be effective and said the project will be phased in three sections to maintain access. Construction could begin in two to three weeks and each section is expected to take about six weeks, with completion around July–August depending on weather.
Separately, council approved a purchase order to CI Paving in the amount of $370,195.36 to reconstruct approximately 1,200 linear feet of the Anderson Drive alley near the new senior center. Staff described that alley as one of the worst in the city and said the contractor can start in two to three weeks and that the work will be staged to limit disruption. Together the two awards total $759,688.66.
Council members discussed tree roots and historic median design on Strathmill and agreed the cost for a full rebuild was justified rather than continuing to patch. Both contracts were awarded after motions and seconds; the council then voted to approve the purchases and staff will coordinate scheduling and resident notifications.
