Library reports usage gains, wins statewide excellence award and lists March programs

Charters told council the library received the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award for the sixth consecutive year, placing it among roughly the top 18% of Texas libraries that received the honor. She also said the library’s Play, Learn, Grow early-learning space received delayed national site certification after COVID-era delays.
The staff previewed March and spring programming: weekly early-literacy story times on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:15 a.m.; a story time at Chick‑fil‑A the first Monday of each month; a Little Artists early‑learner program with Southern Methodist University as a partner; a homeschool "lunch bunch" meet-up; a spring break schedule of daily elementary activities March 11–14; a teen tabletop role‑playing event with materials distributed March 10 and a play session March 14; VITA free tax-preparation assistance for eligible taxpayers through April 15; monthly Medicare and Legal Aid workshops; a Black History Month celebration March 22 at the Conroe Senior Center featuring local businesses and a fashion show; and a ticketed Whiskey Tasting in the Spice Club Speaker Series.
Council members reacted informally during the presentation; no council action or new funding request was made during the agenda item.
