Town announces spring water-system flushing and a $20,000 knotweed grant

Town Manager Kevin Lewis told the Select Board Mansfield’s annual water-system flushing program will begin March 25 and proceed over roughly eight weeks, with work daily between midnight and 6 a.m. in the areas scheduled for flushing.
Lewis said details and a street-level schedule will be published on the town website and social media and warned residents that line flushing can sometimes cause short-term turbidity in affected streets.
On environmental work, Lewis announced that environmental and conservation planner Caitlin Gagne secured a $20,000 grant from the Taunton River Watershed Alliance to support the town’s efforts to treat Japanese knotweed, an invasive plant species the town identified as a management priority.
The town manager said staff will post flushing maps and notifications and thanked Gagne and the conservation team for obtaining the grant. No action vote was required; the announcements were for board information and public notice.
