Council on Aging: Mansfield earns age-friendly recognition; new survey and Senior Safety Day planned

Paula Devine, representing the Mansfield Council on Aging, told the Select Board the town was formally recognized as an age-friendly community as of February 2025 and that the COA, COA board and town planner will develop a community needs-assessment survey to identify priorities for older residents.
Devine said the COA strengthened partnerships with neighboring Councils on Aging in Attleboro, Norton and North Attleboro, held a successful intergenerational social event, and is offering discounted Parks and Recreation programs for residents ages 60 and older through grant funding.
She announced a Senior Safety Day on Friday, June 6 from 10 to 12:10 p.m., which will involve multiple agencies and is part of the town’s broader senior-safety work with Mansfield Triad — a partnership of local fire, police, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and senior advocates that focuses on scam prevention, elder-abuse awareness and resource access. The COA also offers a memory cafe, caregiver support group and educational workshops for dementia care.
Why it matters: The age-friendly designation and planned programs are intended to guide service priorities for a substantial senior population in Mansfield and to support caregivers and older residents through outreach, prevention and collaboration with public-safety partners.
