The Charlestown Town Council on May 12 approved an amended resolution directing the South County Tourism Council to sell Thomas Dambo “troll” T‑shirts and donate all proceeds to the Town of Charlestown for designated use at Ninigret Park.
Town Administrator Peter Allen reported that South County Tourism director Louise Bishop told him the agency already sells the shirts through its website and had been donating proceeds to the town for park improvements. At the meeting the council struck a clause that would have required the town administrator to negotiate a separate contract and replaced it with straightforward language: South County Tourism will sell the shirts and donate proceeds to the town for Ninigret Park.
Councilor Sarah moved to approve the amended resolution and Councilor Maher seconded; the council voted unanimously, 5–0, to adopt the replacement language. Town staff were directed to begin promoting the shirt sales on the town website and social media and to coordinate with South County Tourism on the distribution of donated proceeds.
The resolution retains a statement that revenue generated from the troll exhibit and related merchandise is expected to provide funds for park maintenance and improvements. The council also agreed to remove one of the draft “whereas” clauses describing tourism-council production of shirts because the tourism council will manage sales and donations directly.
