Public commenters at the Henry County Fiscal Court meeting urged the court to study and consider ordinances regulating large data centers, and court staff reported problems locating the prior economic development council’s registered agent and account records.
During public comment Joyce Meyer warned about the local impacts of large hyperscale data centers, citing concerns about noise, high power demand, and community health. Meyer urged the court to research other counties’ ordinances and consider protections to limit impacts if developers approach Henry County.
Court staff and officials then described attempts to contact the prior economic development council corporation to determine the status of its funds. Staff said they sent formal notice to the previous registered agent via the last known PO box and had received no response; they reported the corporation’s state registration and contact information appeared not to have been updated for several years. The court said the fiscal court does not have direct access to the corporation’s accounts and that staff have requested an accounting and transfer but had not received one.
The public also asked whether subcommittee meetings would be open to the public; the court responded that meetings will be public and that the court could post scheduling information on its Facebook page if needed. A court member said they would try to locate barrel tax and property-tax numbers requested for a related parcel and promised to follow up at the next meeting.
