Road officials reported several pieces of heavy equipment were out of service, including two or three backhoes and a skid steer. County staff said they obtained pricing from both Case and Caterpillar (Cat) dealers and proposed replacing two backhoes this year, rotating additional replacements in later years to avoid simultaneous warranty expirations. The court approved a motion to review the bids and pricing options, but it did not authorize an immediate purchase at this meeting; the review committee will evaluate trade-in values and state-pricing options and report back for a purchase decision.
Court members and staff said buying directly on state contract pricing may avoid the need for additional bidding and could expedite replacements to restore road operations.
