Court approves emergency HVAC replacement at jail; jailer reports high intake and staffing logistics

Jailer Joshua reported the unit failed “yesterday morning” and that technicians had determined “the whole unit’s beyond repair at this point.” He said the heat exchanger had been patched repeatedly and that the unit—originally replaced in 2008—was beyond technical repair. He and county maintenance staff contacted multiple vendors and recommended PSK because of the company’s quick response and existing contract relationship.
PSK’s bid to replace the unit was $11,500. The court approved that bid and authorized up to $15,000 total to include an added roof curb and related roofing work if necessary. As described in court, replacing the curb in conjunction with a planned roof work could reduce future leak and maintenance risk.
The jailer also briefed the court on operations. He reported the jail population and flow: over 21 days his staff booked 117 people and released 122, and at the time of the meeting counts were given as “71 county, 52 state,” with the facility holding 125 total in custody. He said short stays still require medical, clothing and feed management and that staffing and transport duties drive operational costs.
