Julie Leverett, founder and board president of the Landau Parks Project, told the Llano City Council the nonprofit has raised nearly $500,000 over 11 years for city parks and described recent and planned projects, including a splash pad, a conceptual master plan, and a $6 million project concept for Robinson Park.
Leverett said the group funded the splash pad entirely and contributed to other park features: bathroom renovations, pickleball courts and baseball netting. "Over the last 11 years, we've been able to invest almost half million dollars into the parks," she told council.
She asked the council to help promote an April 12 "Chalk the Park" event that will include a color run, chalk-art competition, vendors and family activities aimed at drawing people into parks to build community connections. Leverett said the group’s work depends on the city owning the land and partnering on installations.
Council thanked Leverett and called the organization "a great example" of local volunteerism supporting city parks. The council did not take formal action; the presentation served as an update and event promotion.
