Bellbrook‑Sugarcreek board authorizes negotiation for Sugar Creek Elementary sale; vice president seeks to recuse

The Bellbrook Sugar Creek Board of Education voted May 20 to amend a prior motion and authorize the superintendent, treasurer and board vice president to enter negotiations for the sale of the Sugar Creek Elementary property in the city of Bellbrook.
The motion to amend the earlier authorization (motion number 25‑72 from April 24, 2025) was moved by Mister Kinsey and seconded by Doctor Pryor. The roll call vote recorded five yeses and no recorded no votes or abstentions at the time of this vote.
During discussion the board vice president said she had previously abstained on the initial vote and asked to remain absent from any negotiation related to the Lions Club because she is a Lions Club member. She told the board she had consulted legal counsel and that counsel advised the affiliation was not a disqualifying conflict, but she requested to continue to step away to preserve transparency.
The board action authorizes district officers to negotiate terms; no sale price or buyer was presented or approved at the meeting. Board members emphasized the vote authorizes negotiations only and does not itself finalize any conveyance. The board did not set a public hearing or sale timetable at the meeting.
The motion passed on a 5–0 roll call. Board members who voted in favor were recorded on the roll as Missus Dawn, Mister Kinsey, Mister Price, Doctor Bridal and Missus Anderson.
