The Bedford City Schools Board of Education voted to remove agenda item 9.01 (Real Estate Tax Increase Appeal, PO Resolution 2025-52) from the night’s agenda, then approved a set of treasurer items and adjusted the action language for revised board policies to a first reading.
Mrs. Turner Burch moved and Mrs. Boynton seconded a motion to remove item 9.01 (PO Resolution 2025-52) from the agenda; the board recorded roll-call votes of “Yes” from Turner Burch, Boynton, Macklin and Carter and the motion passed 4–0.
The treasurer reported the district was “trending positive” for the year and provided figures and context for the five-year forecast. The treasurer said the district closed February with a favorable trend and that March property-tax settlements replaced county advances that had been reduced earlier. The treasurer also presented a two-year renewal/service agreement for Power for Schools (electricity) and said acting on the quote quickly could avoid an estimated $10,000 increase next year. The treasurer listed gifts and donations, including a $50 donation to Glendale Primary School from Domingo Canela and a $2,489.29 donation from Right Direction Behavioral Health Services for girls flag football warm-ups.
Board members then voted to accept items 9.02 through 9.07 (treasurer’s reports, donations, appropriations and forecast updates). Mrs. Macklin moved and Mrs. Boynton seconded the motion; roll-call votes were recorded as “Yes” from Macklin, Boynton, Turner Burch and Carter and the motion passed 4–0.
On policy items, the board clarified that a set of revised board policies would be presented as a first reading rather than for approval. Mrs. Turner Burch moved and Mrs. Macklin seconded an amendment to change the action from “approve” to “read” for the revised policies; the motion passed on roll call with all members voting “Yes.” Board members discussed scheduling a policy committee meeting to review policy language that had been altered, including policies that had references to DEI and “ensuring equity and excellence in education.” District staff said the committee meetings are noticed and that board members on the policy committee welcome input; staff also offered to provide more detailed explanations of where legal obligations tied to federal funds and labor relations remain in other policies.
The meeting closed with announcements about upcoming events (Special Olympics on April 27 and a Distinguished Hall of Fame event on May 10) and an adjournment motion that passed by roll call.
