A district human-resources and CTE presenter summarized staffing levels, social-emotional supports and career-technical education offerings.
The district employs 658 staff in total, the presenter said: 369 certified (teachers and licensed staff) and 289 classified (bus drivers, paraprofessionals, nurses and other support staff). The presenter said 220 teachers hold master’s degrees and the district has 23 master teachers who earned portfolios and committee review.
On social-emotional learning (SEL), the district described a multi-tiered continuum and listed staff supporting students: a counselor in each primary and intermediate building, one in the middle school, five counselors divided alphabetically at the high school, five SEL interventionists, two social workers, two mental-health therapists and a school-based nurse in each building. The district also runs family engagement events (Together We Can virtual sessions) and a Welcome Back family fair with community mental-health and hospital partners.
Career-technical education (CTE) was highlighted as returning and expanding: the district now offers 16 pathways for juniors to choose from, eight of them newly reintroduced this year. Presenters cited partnerships with Rockwell Automation, MetroHealth, University Hospitals and Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) to provide work-based learning and instructional sites (example: culinary classes at Tri-C). The district said VISCOM will be added next year.
Registration and community events: the district reminded families of a May 15 deadline to register to receive an invitation to the kindergarten “sneaker ball” and noted a BCSD 2-mile/5K run and pancake breakfast planned for May 31 and a senior prom for older adults on June 7.
Why it matters: Staffing levels and SEL capacity signal the district’s ability to serve students’ academic and nonacademic needs. Restored CTE pathways and employer partnerships create direct work-based learning routes for students.
Ending: The presenter encouraged families to register by posted deadlines and attend upcoming community events supporting student engagement and SEL.
