Bedford alumnus David Kennedy, founder of TrustedSec and Binary Defense, was honored at the March 6 board meeting for sponsoring the district’s esports team and cybersecurity pathway and for supporting student training opportunities.
The Bedford Board of Education recognized alumnus David Kennedy on March 6 for his financial and programmatic support of the district’s cybersecurity pathway and esports team.
Carla (staff) introduced Kennedy as the founder and CEO of Binary Defense and TrustedSec. Kennedy described his company’s work and his motivation for partnering with Bedford: “I was in the military for five years, deployed a couple times in Iraq for intelligence related missions... I wanted to look at the next generation of cyber security professionals and where better to start here, at Bedford,” he said. Kennedy said TrustedSec runs a state-of-the-art training facility in Fairlawn, Ohio, and described hands-on exercises that he and his staff bring to students.
Administrators told the board Kennedy has sponsored the district’s esports team and supported the cybersecurity pathway curriculum. Board members said they plan to incorporate formal naming recognition for Kennedy in the district’s new facility and to include a hallway reference or room name in the new building. The recognition was presented as an honorary acknowledgment; no formal contract or donation amount was discussed on the record.
