The Fremont City Schools finance committee reported to the full board on monthly financial reviews and several follow-up items. Committee members said they reviewed monthly financials, began work on a district funding policy (currently recommended at state level), and discussed record-retention procedures that the treasurer, superintendent and board president will sign off on for disposition of old records.
Committee and treasurer reports noted a forthcoming settlement related to tangible personal property taxes from the Nexus pipeline; once the district receives the back payments, staff recommended placing those dollars into a separate fund or set-aside to offset potential future reductions in personal property tax revenues should the legislature reduce those sources. The treasurer cautioned March settlements had not yet arrived and explained accounting changes that make current-year amounts appear larger because prior-year lines were split differently.
The committee review also included a proposal to transfer $325,000 from the general fund into the health-and-wellness account to cover high-cost claims; that transfer was executed for cash-flow protection and may be returned to the general fund midsummer if claims permit.
On board business, members approved appropriation changes, including class of 2026 prom funds and other routine adjustments; roll-call votes recorded approvals for the listed appropriation items.
Ending: Finance staff will present further details when the March settlement is finalized and will bring proposed funding-policy language through the finance and policy committees for board consideration.
