Fairborn City Schools honored Javon DeWitt on Feb. 6 after he was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist.
The district said DeWitt advanced from a pool of more than 16,000 semifinalists to become a finalist; presenters noted that more than 1.3 million juniors at about 21,000 U.S. high schools entered the 2025 National Merit program. District presenters said finalists may be selected for scholarship awards in April, May, June or July, when award notifications are issued.
Superintendent-level presenters congratulated DeWitt and thanked staff and family for supporting his academic achievement. Javon DeWitt stood with district officials for a brief recognition; the board offered applause and formal congratulations.
The recognition required no board vote and was presented as an acknowledgment of student achievement.
