Commission signs letter seeking 3-month extension for Miami County CDBG sewer project review

The Miami County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a letter on May 14 asking the Kansas Department of Commerce for a three-month extension on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) sewer project, to avoid jeopardizing $305,000 in grant funding.
County Administrator Shane Crow said the extension is requested because the bid package is under review by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and because the county needed extra time to secure easements along Highway 220. Crow told the board he expects USDA will complete its review within the requested extension and that the project can then proceed to bidding.
“With this extension, then we wouldn't jeopardize the $305,000 of Community Development Block Grant funding,” Crow said, explaining the rationale for the request.
Commissioner Vaughn moved to approve the letter; Commissioner Vickery seconded. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
