Miami County approves $5,000 annual dues to Lake Region Solid Waste

The Miami County Commission on April 23 approved a $5,000 annual dues payment to the Lake Region Solid Waste Management Committee.
Eric Sandberg presented the request and described Lake Region as a seven-county collaborative that assists with five-year solid waste planning, household hazardous waste programs and community grants. “Every 5 years, you have to overhaul your solid waste management plan, so our coordinator helps us facilitate those needs,” Sandberg said, noting Miami County has been a member for multiple years and that the county received roughly $36,000 in Lake Region grants in 2022 for local projects such as tire recycling and community amenities.
A motion to pay the $5,000 annual dues was moved by Commissioner Diedecker and seconded by Commissioner Vickery. The commission approved the payment 4–0.
Sandberg said dues are equal across member counties. Commissioners who spoke welcomed continued collaboration through Lake Region, citing the landfill’s role and grant funding that has benefitted local parks and programs.
