Worthington City School District wins Auditor of State Award with distinction

Scott Brown, regional liaison for Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber, presented the Auditor of State Award with distinction to the Worthington City School District on Feb. 24.
The award “is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit that meet the following criteria defined as a clean audit report,” Brown said, noting that just about 4% of statewide audits receive the honor. He told the board the district met requirements including filing reports by the statutory due date and producing a comprehensive annual financial report without findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses or uniform guidance findings.
Treasurer TJ Cusick accepted the award on the district’s behalf and credited district staff and the finance team, saying the district still prepares its comprehensive financial report in‑house and that assistant treasurer Brian Cottrell “brings up all that information and produces our financial report.” Cusick said doing the work internally “saves Worthington a lot of money.”
The board offered brief remarks and moved on to the rest of the agenda after the presentation.
