Miami County to resolicit bids for Hedge Lane guardrail after no responses

The Miami County Commission on April 23 authorized staff to resolicit bids for a guardrail replacement project on Hedge Lane after the initial solicitation received no bids.
Matt Oler, project manager, said the project (2202CO691) covers guardrail replacement on FAS 270 spanning what the record describes as the Meridazine, south of 340 Seventh Street. Oler said staff had mended the guardrail as a temporary measure but the current work is not crash-worthy and needs full replacement. “We had no responders,” Oler said, noting that several contractors downloaded the plans but did not submit bids.
To increase contractor interest, Oler asked to reopen the solicitation with a broadened set of classifications and an extended schedule so that early start would be contract execution and a late start could be as late as December 2025. He also requested permission to contact specialized guardrail contractors directly to notify them of the work.
A motion authorizing Mr. Oler to resolicit bids passed 4–0 after being moved by Commissioner Diedecker and seconded by Commissioner Scruggs.
The commission did not award the project; staff will return with bids when received. Oler said the work must be completed but timing can be flexible to attract contractors and fit their schedules.
