Lakeview students showcase inventions; fifth-grader wins state-level award and national invitation

Lakeview Elementary students presented inventions and prototypes to the Stow‑Munroe Falls City School District board on Feb. 24 as part of an Invention Convention showcase led by teacher Jessica Martinez.
Martinez described the program as problem‑based learning in which students identify a problem, survey users, design prototypes, test and market their solutions. Fifth-grader Grayson Zibertosky won the state competition in the category “fashion and wearable technology” with “Cool Slicks for Cool Kids,” a color-matched washable shoe cover; Martinez said Grayson was invited to nationals and earned a scholarship award and participation in Kid Inventor Day at the Ohio Statehouse.
Other students described projects. Jace Renner demonstrated the “Quiet Cup,” a classroom cup that reduces noise when it falls and includes storage pockets. Lula described an adjustable swim hair tie. Beckett and a partner presented the “Cold Hold,” a spoon with a refrigerated stainless tip and space for a thermometer to help avoid burning mouths when eating soup. Martinez said students complete patent searches and other entrepreneurship steps as part of the program.
The board and superintendent applauded the students, and the meeting included a Bulldog Center Stage awards presentation recognizing staff and employees across the district for service and support. The board recessed briefly to allow families with young children to leave and then continued business.
