USD 419 special bond election passes in McPherson County

McPherson County Clerk Holly Milroy told the county commission on April 28 that provisional ballots and other returns from the USD 419 special bond election had been processed and that the measure passed.
“The results are in, and it still passed,” Milroy said, reporting totals of 320 yes votes and 147 no votes, for a total of 467 votes. The commission voted to approve the special election canvas as presented.
Milroy reviewed provisional-ballot handling and applicable Kansas statutes cited during the canvass. She said the county received nine provisional ballots; eight were accepted after review and one remained unregistered and likely a moved voter. Milroy cited KSA 25-215 and KSA 25-2302 when explaining registration requirements for provisional ballots and referenced provisions governing advance ballots and the three-day grace period for mailed ballots that are postmarked by election day.
The commission approved a motion to accept the canvass. Commissioners did not record individual roll-call votes in the minutes beyond the standard “aye” votes for the motion.
The county clerk said one provisional ballot arrived after the unofficial results were posted; she did not open that ballot before the canvass to avoid linking it to a voter. She said it would be added to the official count before final certification.
The commission also noted that the special election passed in every precinct and that the clerk’s office prepared detailed precinct-level returns for the record.
The commission did not take additional action on the bond measure itself; certification of the canvass was the formal outcome at this meeting.
