The Big Walnut Local School District Board of Education on Jan. 13 approved a contract award to Converse Electric for the installation of a 180-kilowatt natural‑gas backup generator at Rosecrans Elementary.
Board documents attached to the agenda list the contract amount as approximately $4,411,177. According to staff presentation, the generator will provide standby and emergency power for egress lighting, district phone and internet systems and will allow the building to function as an emergency management agency shelter, including power for kitchen, cafeteria and gym spaces. Construction was scheduled to begin in late May and conclude in early August.
District staff told the board that the school's fiber and internet connections route through Rosecrans (GRE), making the generator a reliability and continuity project for district operations. The board approved the award as part of the consent agenda; no amendment to the bid award was recorded during the meeting.
Implementation tasks noted by staff include executing the contract with Converse Electric and scheduling construction work for late spring and summer.
