Council member Spillness (who introduced the ordinance) summarized that the city had assembled and reviewed a prioritized list of streets for paving and asked whether there were changes from the list discussed in the prior meeting.
Council members asked about public access to the prioritized list of streets; one member said the list had been posted on social media and in the Athens Independent. Staff indicated they would distribute the formal list to council upon request. The mayor later referenced a street list circulated to the transportation committee and read proposed streets that could be included when the project goes to bid; she noted that final scope will depend on bid results.
Next steps: Ordinance 52-25 was read for the first time and will return for second reading. If approved, the service-safety director will solicit bids and enter a contract with the lowest responsive bidder for paving work under Project No. 385.
